Business travelers in France can get on 250 mile an hour trains that leave from clean modern stations on time. American businessmen can sit in traffic on the way to aging airports over broken roads or take old slow trains that bump along rails that were obsolete in the 1960s. Because we can’t afford modern railways in America.

We can afford a trillion dollar war in the middle east in which the government airlifted crates of cash that then disappeared.
We have to be frugal! That’s why we can’t afford $15,000/year unemployment benefits or nice school buses (with seat belts) like they have in Japan. Because we need tax cuts so that we can give an additional $100,000 a year to rich people.

This is what the mass transit metro looks like in Washington DC.
Because we can’t afford something like they have in Beijing.
This is an aisle of modern “chip shooting” machines in a Chinese factory.
In fact this video shows a sophisticated wire bonding machine being used in a toy factory in China where huge investments in automation and modern equipment cause Chinese manufacturing to jump ahead. These pictures come from this blog where you can see some remarkable indications of how China is leaping from low labor cost to advanced manufacturing capability. The US used to be the world center of advanced manufacturing, but we can’t afford it anymore
because if money went into investment in, you know, making stuff, how could we afford a system where assholes likes this guy
could make hundreds of millions of dollars a year at super low tax rates and then whine to the President about how they have too much tax to pay?
