Gerontocracy and gullible liberals

The Republican leader in the US Senate, 80 year old Moscow Mitch McConnell has done more to block climate change legislation than any person on earth other than Republican mega-funders like 91 year old Rupert Murdoch and 86 year old Charles Koch. Chuck Grassley, the 88 year old Republican Senator is 8 points ahead of his Democratic opponent in current polling. James Inhofe the Republican senior senator from Iowa is 87. Republican Richard Shelby is 88. Donald Trump is 76 and, obviously, aging badly. Yet America’s Republican controlled “news” media pounds away at the older Democrats so persistently that the usual suspect “liberals” have taken to writing handwringing cringeworthy complaints about Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi. In fact, Biden and Pelosi, and James Clyburn are extremely effective politicians who are considered enormous threats by the far right – which is why the media goes after them all the time while never ever asking whether Moscow Mitch or Chuck Grassley have “lost a step” or are “out of touch” with today’s hip youngsters. Joe Biden is an excellent and adroit President but the effectiveness of the corporate media messaging can be seen in all the concern that gullible liberals ( Paul Campos and Eric Loomis for example) are sharing. Four months out from a critical mid-term that might see Republicans take control of the House, some fools think that the most important things to consider are their dumbass ideas for replacing Joe Biden. Letting the corporate media, which is profoundly hostile to the Democrats, control the agenda is a fatal. Loomis, who spent the Obama administration lamenting President Obama’s failure to measure up to an imaginary FDR could maybe stop trying to speak for Democrats entirely.
